Authored by
Peizhuo Xia and Mei Wang, the book "Women Executives
in Silicon Valley" features the biographies of ten successful women entrepreneurs, all of whom are of
Chinese descent, who have made their way to the top of the companies
in Silicon Valley. Among them are founders of successful startups
(e.g., Marvell, WebEx),
executives of high-tech giants (e.g., KLA-Tencor), and professors
(e.g., from Stanford) who have ventured
outside academia. They came from different origins: some were raised in
the U.S., some are from Mainland China or Taiwan who first came to the
U.S. for graduate school, some made their way through labor camps
during the culture revolution and came out stronger than ever before.
This book tells the real-life stories of how these women overcame the
culture and gender barriers to become high-level executives of large
corporations and founders of growing startups. This book was published
in Chinese 2005 by the most prestigious publishing house in China --
Writers Press.
The new book release, which took
place at Stanford University on January 22, 2005, was a great
success. Over 300 guests packed the auditorium, many of whom had to
stand outside the doorway throughout the whole event. The event
was hosted by co-author Mei Wang. Five of the featured characters
shared their stories and offered their advice on entrepreneurship,
work-life balance, minority and women issues in Silicon Valley, etc.
The audience responded with overwhelming enthusiasm. The event was
covered by multiple media channels, including newspapers, radio, and
TV stations.
